Painting occupies a specific territory where I try to find meaning in the process. As a painter friend recently voiced and many years ago I heard Wolf Kahn say, it is the glimpse(ing) of a (some)thing which generates excitement and speaks volumes for me. The obvious, by contrast, does little or nothing. I recall a passage from Kafka I read in my teens in which the principle of the story referred to the act of looking over his shoulder and in that proces (that second) having a flash of light reflect from a window above causing a shift in vision AND memory. It is something like this spontaneous and etherial event I hope to have my paintings capture. That and show me the next step to take, which, like a novelist pursuing the story, will complete the picture of an event and/or resurrect a memory. Below are details (of paintings) and such glimpses.
